Melbourne Ukulele Festival

This was the first Ukulele Festival I’d attended and I wasn’t disappointed. There is something really beautiful about the atmosphere of a musical event but none more beautiful than one that is held to worship that tiny little wooden box with four plastic strings. I took my young Japanese friend along to the Sunday activities and it struck me while walking along High St Northcote with our ukes slung over our shoulders, that we were kind of protected from any danger. Similarly others were ambling around with cases of various size, construction and design – all symbols that denoted allegiance to a special friendly club. Next year I am going to attend the whole three days and nights to absorb more of the special aura that surrounds people who play ukuleleImage
